Getting Started

There are four modules with total of 10 lessons for Grades 9-12 and older adults in the Food Systems Thinker website. Each lesson focuses on different parts of the complex food systems and provides activities to help learners practice systems thinking.

The lesson begins with the learning objectives addressing what learners are expected to know after finishing the lesson. Responding to thought-provoking questions and reflecting after every lesson is essential in order to meet the ultimate goal of becoming a more responsible consumer and citizen.

PACING & SEQUENCING

Lessons are designed to be used within 45 minutes and the rest of the class period should allow learners to reflect on the learning experience. The website can be navigated in sequential order, but each lesson also stands on its own.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING GUIDELINES

Some lessons contain optional activities that encourage exploration outside of classroom and provide learners with opportunity to connect with the real life events. They are suited as homework assignments.

SOCIAL MEDIA

The Food Systems Thinker website encourages learners to explore, share, and discuss their ideas with others through social media. Look for the icons to get connected on Instagram and Facebook @FoodSystemsThinker. Teachers and students should tag all their posts with #FoodSystemsThinker and explore other learners’ ideas on this hashtag.
